During the pandemic I think I went through what a lot of people did. I was working in marketing and private events for a restaurant that had now been forced to close and furlough the majority of the employees. I had lots of time on my hands and needed to think of some alternatives to working in the hospitality industry.

Listening to Tiffany on clubhouse and learning so much about the market introduced me to a better opportunity to be able to contribute financially with my husband in taking care of our 4 children. When modern black girl was being formed I learned how options would be a great alternative to putting my money to work although during the near 10 years I worked in brokerage no one bothered to inform me.

After listening for a while, taking classes over and over and plenty of notes I finally decided to give trading a try. I had my first day making $1000 last year in the early summer. Tiffany was right, the scanner paid for itself! Now I know I’m going to be able to buy back my time this year. If it wasn’t for MBG and all of the contributors I wouldn’t know how to earn this freedom on my own. Not to mention I look pretty cute in my merch! I share how important this movement is with everyone around me hopeful they will want their freedom too. I appreciate this company so much.

I’m not new to stock market investing but I am new to options. I wanted to use options to increase the value of my long-term portfolio. But before doing so I wanted to learn how to use them. I knew they provided a greater opportunity for return but there was also some risk. Unlike buying a share of stock with options you have to consider other things like theta that can eat into your principal. The MBG group provided me with the perfect opportunity to learn about options trading. 

Through the group, I have access to classes that provided me a good basic understanding of options more importantly the classes taught me how to pick the best options contract to maximize my profit potential. Can’t recommend this group enough. If you want to retire early I suggest you join – but remember you only get out of the training what you put into it. Patience is the key.

In December 2020, I discovered Tiffany James from ModernBlkGirl in a clubhouse room for stocks and options. I was amazed. Never have I heard of a room full of black women discussing investing, but more importantly, discussing a community dedicated to us. As I learned, ModernBlkGirl, established just a month prior, served as a community for WOC to learn wealth-building knowledge about investing in the stock market. This opportunity and knowledge could not have come at a better time.

Within the first sixty days of that same year, my aviation career was in jeopardy, my grandmother was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer, and daily news spread about the ongoing COVID outbreak. I did the unthinkable. I left my airline job as a flight attendant and found a job in corporate America. For months, I hoped for a situation that would grant me financial freedom as I saw the pandemic becoming a part of my reality.

In January 2021, I took my first class, and by February, I took every class MBG offered. Over the next five months, I spent countless nights studying, charting, and reading every piece of material I could get my hands on. ModernBlkGirl opened so many doors of knowledge. From fundamental analysis to doing sector rotation break-downs and explaining option contracts, I knew I had landed on gold through financial education.  ModernBlkGirl classes taught more than being a trader, but how to be an overall stock market investor.

By May, I estimated over 300 hours I spent on my education from MBG and personal research. That broke down to 3 hours a day, 15 hours a week, and 60 hours a month. May 15, 2021, became my last day in corporate America.

Present-day. I am currently on track to double my past year’s salary.

The Modern Blk Girl’s platform, created by Tiffany James and Sharlea Brooks, has changed my life. Currently, I am managing two of my retirement accounts and a personal account. By 2023, I will have made break on my first investment property.
